The Custom Piece

There are few things more exhilarating than finding that perfect piece of furniture for your home - except, when you get to custom design that piece yourself. I have customized my own furniture before (the coffee tables and sideboard), but somehow designing a chair feels like a whole other story. That feeling might have something to do with the occasion as well: a few weeks ago I got invited to a lovely dinner with MYCS where, instead of seating cards, our custom designed chairs literally showed our seats at the table. Such a fun idea!

When I received the invitation, it didn't take me long to figure out what my ideal chair should look like. A classic design, of course Scandi-inspired, with luxe dark tones. A chair with personality, but subtle enough to blend with the whole decor. A chair that completes the interior design without sticking out of the (furniture) "crowd". I had the option to choose from three different basic designs (I chose "PRYME") and add my own spin to it. Armchair - yes or no? How about the legs? What colour palette to choose? So many options to choose from and truly make the design your own. I felt inspired by Scandinavian designs and knew, based on my other furniture, that I wanted to incorporate black - but in combination with wood. I chose the "walnut" option for its darker tone and elegant look.

Turns out, it was a great addition to my living room. Chairs are probably my favourite type of furniture, as they are not only functional, but also add personality to your interior. They can completely change the vibe in your home and especially in smaller spaces, it's a great piece to decorate without sacrificing (the feeling of) spaciousness. Plus, when you've designed the chair yourself, it's a great conversation starter when hosting friends!
